Nyasa times, probably the best online paper reported without bias the function as follows:

Mzuni theather group stages “Emotional Crunch”

sydney ngwiraMzuzu University Theater Heights Ensemble (MUTHE) joined the 45th independence day celebrations by performing “Emotional Crunch”, a play which was staged in honor of the late Sydney Ngwira (pictured), who was a founding trustee of the group.

Ngwira , who was a lecturer in Library and Information Science at the university, launched MUTHE on May 18 2008 and died on May 18 2009, making it exactly one year, a situation which was described by many student and lecturer spectators as unusually unique.

Packed with a series of ‘emotional crunch’ scenes, the play ends with Abby(Miriam Mkamanga),the bridegroom, dying on the wedding day, to an ‘emotional crunch’ after receiving news that her ex-boyfriend had died to another ‘emotional crunch’ when he heard that she was marrying another man, Talakwanji(Martin Nkasala).

After the performance, one of the actors Auther Chitsulo said, he was happy to commemorate the life of ‘the fallen hero’, Sydney Ngwira with a wonderful performance MUTHE displayed as it could be read from the response of the audience.

Curtain raising the performance which took place at the university hall were Mzuni’s Reggie sensation Redson Kambwiri and hip-hop king Zinja.

“Emotional Crunch” was written by Paul Kubwalo, a mathematics lecturer at the university and MUTHE president David Nyirenda thanked the Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) for sponsoring the event. –Mana
